Simple Energy, an Indian company, opened its first electric scooter factory in the western Tamil Nadu state of Krishnagiri on January 19th. The factory, with an investment of INR 1 billion (about JPY 16 billion), has a site area of 200,000 sq ft and includes assembly lines, motor production lines, battery production lines and test facilities. The company plans to create over 700 jobs and has the capacity to produce 1 million scooters annually. Simple Energy is a Bengaluru-based start-up founded in 2019 by S. Rajkumar and is currently building its second EV factory and a lithium-ion battery factory in the neighboring state of Dharmapuri. The company's first EV scooter, the Simple One, was announced in August 2021 and has a top speed of 105 km/h, accelerating from 0-40 km/h in 2.77 seconds, and an electric power of 4.8 kW/hour. It can be pre-ordered for INR 1,947 on the company's website and its showroom price is INR 110,000.
